we – the same

About Us.

The Celtic Progression is being developed by parents for their children and those like their children and professionals within the education and

health environments to increase the options and development opportunities and to allow participants the best chance of reaching their potential whether this is physical, social or professionally.

When we looked at how this might work we realised that the national approach in the model of the Special Olympics would be required but the local club structure would not. This is due to the geographical spread of the participants that might fall into the “same category”.

The agreed approach is based on developing a national database where people opt in for a particular category. The parents will then need to support the development, in conjunction with the relevant professionals, of what type of programme would best suit that category.

What is a need? This can be anything from “mild Downs Syndrome with no medical needs” to dyslexia to Asperger’s or any other group that feels their needs could be addressed by a programme being developed specifically for that cohort in the form of a summer residential camp.

If a parent or potential participant considers that such a category would be appropriate to create and there is sufficient interest from other parents (or participants) of a similar category we will be happy engage with them to explore the possibilities of creating an appropriate programme.

The Vision.

That all individuals would be able to participate in a programme and experience living away from home in a secure and structured environment as part of their development. The focus will be on the cultural “Right of Passage” that people with needs often find much more difficult to obtain.

(the duration of the Programme will be commence as a two week course within the Programme in 2023 and hoping to expand to three weeks if appropriate)

The Mission.

To create an organisation that will be capable of organising and managing programmes of participation that are tailored to the specific needs of the individuals on that group.

The Goals.

  1. To identify the individuals that might wish to avail of an appropriate Programme

  2. To set up a safe and secure ICT infrastructure to capture the appropriate information about the individual and potential supports

  3. As a pilot of a Programme for people with Needs, organise and Run a two week course in 2023 for participants with Downs syndrome no medical needs aimed at students of second level school going age.
